Parkrun

Parkrun is a 5km run held on Saturday mornings around Australia. The events are free and open to everyone. You can run, jog, or walk, and with a dedicated tail walker you can never come last.

The minimum requirement to participate is to turn up. Technically, you don’t have to sign up but it is best to sign up and get a barcode to bring with you. At the conclusion of the run, you are given a finishing token which you hand over with your barcode for your run and time to be recorded. You can use your barcode at any Parkrun in the world.

The course of the run depends on the location. The courses are normally well marked and often have marshals to guide runners at key spots on the course. Volunteers at the courses provide new runners to the course with some information to make sure they are on track.

Parkrun started at the Gold Coast in 2011 and has expanded to over 340 locations across Australia. The first Parkrun was in Teddnigton in the UK in 2004 with 13 park runners.
