The Peak Crossing Historical Well is possibly the last surviving well in a series of wells along the Old Warwick Road between Fassifern and beyond the Southern Downs.
The wells were provided by the Queensland Government in the 19th century for a safe water supply for Teamsters and other travellers.
The original hand pump is at the well and can be used to pump water from the well. The water is not safe to drink, but it is fun to be able to use the old pump and appreciate what we have today to be able to get and easily carry fresh drinking water.
The site has been re-developed with a platform around the pump and a small shelter with a bench seat. The bench seat doesn’t seem to serve much purpose, a sheltered picnic table would have been more useful.
The brown sign suggests there is a historical marker in addition to the historical well, but there didn’t appear to be anything as a marker.
From the Peak Crossing Historical Well, travel through Harrisville to the Historical Marker 
where the Normanby Plains Trigonometrical Baseline was established.
To get there:
From the Ipswich Boonah Rd, turn into Flinders St at Peak Crossing. Follow Flinders St for 1.8km and the Peak Crossing Historical Well is on the right at the brown sign opposite the well. Another brown sign is located 300m before the well. Parking is on the other side of the road.
From Harrisville, head east along Queen St, which becomes Warrill View Peak Crossing Rd. After 1km on leaving the township, turn left at the end to continue along Warrill View Peak Crossing Rd. Follow Warrill View Peak Crossing Rd for 4.5km and the Peak Crossing Historical Well is on the left at the brown sign just before the well. Another brown sign is located 300m before the well.
