Flanagan Reserve Bush Camping is a camping ground in the Scenic Rim overlooked by Mt Maroon, with fresh water Logan River running along the length of it.
With 12 hectares of camping grounds, there is plenty of space to set up camp, much of it with mottled shade from eucalyptus trees. Spots along the banks of the Logan River are sort after, and sites are first in first pick, but it isn’t too far from the river from most of the grounds.
We were there between Christmas and New Years. Being a popular period, there were a number of portable toilets added near the toilet block. With the extra demand, there was still plenty of space around to set up camp and for our families to have a game of cricket with the kids.
The river is a great place to have a swim and cool off, with holes to sit between the boulders with the water flowing passed you. The water was running enough for the kids (small and adult varieties) to go down the rapids on various flotation devices. Down from the rapids is a long calm water section, shallow at first, then becoming quite deep.
Campfires are allowed in provided fireplaces, and firewood can be purchased from the kiosk by the wheelbarrow load. You can bring your own but chainsaws are not allowed.
There are hot showers, requiring 20c pieces per minute of water, regardless if you use hot water or cold. The coin box is outside the shower cubicle door, but you can feed it with multiple coins at once. My kids and I took shifts so we could feed in coins when needed.
The office and kiosk sell basic items like bread, milk and ice, as well as ice-blocks.
Non-standard rates may vary from year to year depending on the dates they include. It is best to check the Flanagan Reserve website to confirm pricing .
