The Nullarbor Links Golf Course is an 18 hole course spread over 1,365 kilometres with one hole in each participating town or roadhouse along the Eyre Highway. Some holes are set up specifically for the course, others are a nominated hole at an established golf course.
Hole 14 and hole 15 of the Nullarbor Links Golf Course (or holes 4 and 5 in reverse) are at the Norseman Golf Club. Both holes are Par 4, Hole 14 is 436 metres and hole 15 is a similar 354 metres. Norseman is the western end of the Eyre Highway that most of the holes are along or near. The other three holes are along the Goldfields Hwy.
Hole 14 is called Golden Horse after the horse the town was named after, Hardy Norseman. According to legend, Hardy Norseman was tethered to a tree overnight at nearby Lake Dundas in 1892. When his owner, Laurie Sinclair, returned to him in the morning, the horse unearthed a gold nugget.
The 14th Tee is devoted to Laurie Sinclair, owner of the local legend Hardy Norseman, the horse that discovered gold and had a town named after him.
Hole 15 is called Ngadju after the Ngadju people, the traditional owners of the land at Noresman. The lake that can be seen from the course is called Warrarnbunna, meaning the place of the long ground. The eucalupt forest around the course is the largest woodland forest in the world, called the Great Western Woodland.
The 15th Tee is devoted to Mort Harslett, a pioneer who lived his entire life at Norseman. He was the founding member of the Historical Museum and remembered for his mail delivery in the early days to properties along the Nullarbor.
