Movie World is an amusement park on the Gold Coast in Queensland, themed around Warner Brothers movies with amusement rides, adventure activities, and shows.
Movie World opened mid-1991 as Australia’s only film-themed park and the oldest of Warner Bros. parks across the world. It started as a joint venture with the part owners of Sea World on a failed film studio lot.
The attractions originally were to show the processes behind filmmaking. Where the popular Stunt Driver show is now held, I remember going through a series of filmmaking scenarios and showing the results of the filming at the end, using Movie Magic Special Effects. It included a green screen shoot for a superman flying scene, and the front of a B-52 bomber to make a scene from Memphis Belle . The Lethal Weapon scene was focused on sounds.
Back then, the stunt show was themed around Police Academy and the Scooby-Doo ride was a more sedate ride based on the Gremlins movie .
Over the years, Movie World has introduced more thrilling rides and now has multiple roller coasters, and updates to make it more relevant and current with newer generations.
There are still the classics around with Looney Tunes characters and of course, the superheroes are still there, although there is more of them with three rollercoasters based on superheroes among other rides and shows.
Movie World is part of a group of five amusement parks in the Gold Coast region, sitting beside Outback Spectacular, a dinner and show venue with horses, and Wet n’ Wild , a water park with everything from a pool to water thrill rides.
Paradise Country is a farm-themed park behind where Movie World and Wet ‘n’ Wild are, with animal encounters including interactive areas to mingle with farm animals.
Sea World , a marine-themed amusement park including marine animal displays, is the odd one out from the group which sits by itself on the coast at Main Beach.
Multiple park passes can be purchased to allow access to most of the parks at a significant discount to purchasing a ticket individually.
