Freshwater Railway Station is one of the stations on the Kuranda Scenic Railway. Located north-west of Cairns, it is the station before the scenic climb up the mountains begin and a popular departure point as an alternative to departing from Cairns.
The Kuranda Scenic Railway was built between 1887 and 1891. Freshwater Railway Station was built in 1984 as a tribute to the pioneers who built the railway.
The scenic railway is famous for its journey winding through the lush rainforests of the world heritage listed wet tropics.
To Get There
Heading north on the Cairns Western Arterial, turn right onto Brinsmead Rd. Follow Brinsmead to the end for 1.6kms and turn right at the roundabout onto Kamerunga Rd towards Freshwater. Follow Kamerunga Rd for 650m and Kuranda Scenic Railway Freshwater Station is on the left.
For more parking, turn left into Lower Freshwater Rd to cross over the railway line just before the railway station, then immediately right into the parking area.
