The Big Pie stands beside the Yatala Pie Shop , a well-known pie shop in the Southeast Queensland region. Built in the 1970s to promote the historical Yatala Pies after they had to relocate when their bakery was bypassed by the new highway. They had been operating since the 1910s, or since the late 1800s if you count the one that was washed down the river in a flood.
