Great views from the Rex Range from a lookout after climbing up Mossman Mount Malloy Road. The lookout is towards the north of Port Douglas, with Newell Beach, Rocky Point, and Mount Alexandra in the distance.
The lookout is basically a wider shoulder on the side of the road. There are no toilets, seating, or anything else there other than a cairn and the view.
Another lookout is further up the range, just over one kilometer further on. We were lucky to get a glimpse of sunshine here but at the Rex Range Lookout we were not so lucky.
To Get There
From Wet Tropics Visitor Information near Port Douglas, head to Captain Cook Hwy and turn right. Follow for 10km and turn left into Mossman Mount Molloy Rd towards Julatten. Follow Mossman Mount Molloy Rd for 7.9km and the lookout will be on your right. The lookout is on a bend so great care is needed. There is a wide shoulder 1.1km further ahead, just passed the next lookout, that has more visibility for oncoming traffic where you can turn around and head back to the lookout.
If coming from Mareeba Visitor Information Centre, head north along the Mulligan Hwy for about 40km, passing through Mt Molloy. Turn right into Mossman Mount Molloy Rd and follow for 20.6km and the lookout will be on your left.
