The Rex Range Lookout is along the Mossman Mount Molloy Road, one of two lookouts near the top of the climb up from the coast.
Unfortunately for us on the day, we found an overcast and raining vista instead of the hills and coastline you would normally see.
The lookout is simple, basically a wider shoulder on the side of the road and a gap between vegetation. There are no facilities of any kind, but the shoulder is bitumen with room for a few vehicles to stop at it.
The lookout is on the left side when heading down the range. The next lookout, the Mossman Mount Molloy Road Lookout , is also on the left one kilometre further down the range.
To Get There
From Wet Tropics Visitor Information near Port Douglas, head to Captain Cook Hwy and turn right. Follow for 10km and turn left into Mossman Mount Molloy Rd towards Julatten. Follow Mossman Mount Molloy Rd for 8.9km and the lookout will be on your right. The lookout is on a bend so great care is needed. There is a wide shoulder 100m further ahead that has more visibility for oncoming traffic where you can turn around and head back to the lookout.
If coming from Mareeba Visitor Information Centre, head north along the Mulligan Hwy for about 40km, passing through Mt Molloy. Turn right into Mossman Mount Molloy Rd and follow for 19.6km and the lookout will be on your left.
