Ripley’s Believe It Or Not has a long history, dealing with bizarre events and items that makes you wonder if some are real.
Robert Ripley started with the concept over 100 years ago in 1919 as a cartoon feature in a newspaper. It is the television shows I remember first discovering Ripley’s Believe It Or Not, first starting in 1949. It was the revival series in the 1980’s that I saw.
The Odditoriums started with a display of Robert Ripley’s collections at the Chicago World’s Fair in 1933. Several displays were shown through the years with the first permanent Odditorium opening in 1950, a year after Robert’s death, in Florida.
The current Odditorium at the Gold Coast was opened in 2010 and renovated more recently to add additional exhibits and galleries. More than 100 new artefacts and interactive parts have been added. Ring-O, the Big Octopus , was added to the entrance.
The 7D Moving Theatre became an additional attraction which can be attended separately or on a combo ticket.
Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! Odditorium
The Odditorium is the main attraction at Ripley’s Believe It Or Not!, a feature at the Gold Coast for many years. A revamp in recent years have added more oddities in four new galleries and exhibits.
The older exhibits can still be found, the foundation of what made Ripley’s Believe It Or Not a fascinating place to explorer.
Ripley’s 7D Moving Theatre
7D Moving Theatre is like a 3D movie except with 4 more dimensions! Using a 3D movie as its base, extra elements are added to the experience.
You buckle yourself into moving seating for up to 8 people. A laser gun lets you interact with the 10-minute movie, competing with the others for the top score.
There are a choice of movie experiences to enjoy. Each is around 10 minutes of watching, interacting, and moving.
- Carnival – Creepy clowns is one thing, trapped in a demented clown is another. Escape the sinister occupants of the twisted amusement park
- Los Banditos – Chase and apprehend a mad scientist protected by his cowboy robot army through the Wild, Wild West, with wagons, trains, and river rafts
- Neon Ninja – cyberpunk Neo Tokyo, avoid an army of robots trying to take back a top-secret package from you
- Robot Riot – An army of alien robots is wreaking havoc and it is up to you to save the world. Defeat the robots and the masterminds behind the attack
- Werewolves – Fight ferocious werewolves hunting you in London. To eliminate them you will need to beat their creator
- Zombies – Your first night patrolling a town you quickly find it to be a fight to survive the night. Fight off a town full of zombies
Ripley’s Impossible LaseRace
Impossible LaseRace is another feature added in the latest renovations and is included in the general admission of the Odditorium. It is a maze of laser beams to duck and crawl through as fast as you can.
It is a laser maze like you would expect in a movie. The difference is there will be no security guards and no burning up in smoke if you get hit by the green laser beams.
