Allan “Snow” Huston Memorial Park is between Murgon and Wondai along the Bunya Highway. There is not much information about who Allan Huston was. While visiting the Wondai Historical Museum I spotted an interim certificate of service document with the RAAF with the name Allan Marcus Huston. I was told he was long standing in the council. The information is possibly lost after the amalgamation of the region’s shire councils into the South Burnett Regional Council.
Based on the name of the certificate, I found some details. Allan Marcus (Snow) Huston in Wondai, lived between 1923 and 1995. In the Canberra Times, Allan Marcus Huston of Wondai is listed in The Australia Day Honours List of 1984 for service to the community.
The memorial park is adjoined to Ficks Crossing , which similarly has little information about it.
To get there:
Turn into Ficks Crossing Road from Bunya Hwy (on the left if heading from Murgon, on the right if heading from Wondai). Continue for 650m, turn left into the parking area just after the road becomes gravel. To the right of the parking area is an access track that allows you to drive further in.
