Antarctic Beech Picnic Area is in the Border Ranges National Park in New South Wales, a great spot to stop for lunch with picnic tables, wood BBQ, and toilets.
A view looks north over the Lost World wilderness area towards the Queensland border and Lamington National Park. The view is closed in by vegetation on the sides, however, there is a clear view across in the centre of the view.
The name of the picnic area comes from the ancient Antarctic Beech trees that are common in the Border Ranges National Park, with their distinctive gnarled trunks.
Antarctic Beech Picnic Area is near the start of Brindle Creek, with a walk from the picnic area down to the creek, then following Brindle Creek downstream to the Brindle Creek Picnic Area, a 6km grade 3 walk one-way.
Antarctic Beech Picnic Area is a good picnic alternative to Brindle Creek Picnic Area with the picnic tables more accessible and the toilets nearby. There is a bit more open space and room for parking here also.
