Leslie Dam was built between 1961 and 1965, named after Scot Patrick Leslie. Patrick Leslie, with brothers Walter and George, was the first settlers to take up land in the Darling Downs. Selecting a site for his station, the town was to be called Canningtown, but was eventually named Warwick.
The dam was built to provide water security for the town. Its capacity was doubled in 1986 to 106,300 megalitres.
Granite rock sculptures of Patrick Leslie and his wife Kate are located near the dam wall.
