Located in Nightcap National Park, Minyon Falls Lookout offers views of the waterfall on Repentance Creek. The lookout is beside the falls on a platform that extends further out than the falls themselves. In addition to the falls, the lookout provides stunning views into the valley below and into the distance. On a clear day, the coast can be seen.
Beside the parking area are picnic tables, some sheltered, and toilet facilities.
Access to Minyon Falls is on an unsealed road which can be rough with potholes in places if it hasn’t been graded for a while. Still, you can access easily with a normal car, you don’t need a 4WD to get there.
Walking Tracks
Minyon Falls walking track
Minyon Falls walking track covers a range of forests, pristine creeks and a spectacular waterfall in Nightcap National Park, around 13km return. Winding through Nightcap escarpment, this track will challenge and delight bushwalkers.
It starts at either the Minyon Falls Lookout picnic area, or at the Minyon Grass Picnic Area. Part way through the walk lead to the bottom of Minyon Falls, although you are not allowed to enter within the last 100 metres. There are some cascades with water pools leading towards the falls, an option for a swim.
The length of the walk depends on how you approach it. The full circuit walk, including an option to view the top of Condong Falls and returning via the road, is around 8.5 kilometres, taking around 3 hours allowing time for photos and taking in the beautiful rainforest scenery along the way. The last section towards the base of Minyon Falls is rocky and requires scrambling over boulders. This section is around 250 metres and not difficult with care. Because the circuit is finished using the road, care is needed to watch for vehicles as pedestrian traffic isn’t well catered for.
Without using the road to make it a circuit, the two parts of the park becomes a 13.5-kilometre return walk. The scramble section to the falls and the optional side-trail to Condong Falls do not need to be repeated, making the return a little quicker, but you still need to allow additional time over the circuit option.
From the Minyon Falls Lookout picnic area, a return walk to the bottom of the falls and back is around 9.5 kilometres, including the optional 800-metre side trail to Condong Falls. The view of Condong Falls (previously called Quandong Falls) is from the top so you don’t get a good view of it. There is partial view of the falls later on the main walk.
From Minyon Grass Picnic Area, the return walk is only 4.2 kilometres. It also is the easier track with less climbing involved and still get to see the rainforest along the way.
Boggy Creek
An easier walk than the Minyon Falls walking track, Boggy Creek walk is a 4-kilometre return walk. It follows Repentance Creek upstream, joining up to the Rummery Park campground.
